University of Dayton. She
worked as a music therapist
in Minnesota and Ohio before

the autism spectrum, Veterans

Music Therapy
goals at the Consortium are
based upon the individual
needs of a child. These goals
are often based on goals developed
by a child's teachers, therapists
and/or parents. A Music Therapist
uses music as the medium to
help children progress in
the targeted areas.
Some
examples of children's
goals include:
Increase attention span
Decrease distractibility
Develop social
skills
Learn positive
coping strategies
Learn to interact
cooperatively and appropriately
with others
Develop communication
skills
Improving self-concept,
self-image, and self-esteem/decreasing
self-absorption
Increase self-awareness
Develop self-control
in dealing with fear and
frustration |
